THE MISSION TEAM
Advancing God’s Kingdom through Missions – Acts 1:8
Where there is no vision, the people perish…
This vision of advancing God’s Kingdom through missions originated in the heart of Pastor Tommy Steele and resulted in the forming of what is now “The Mission Team” of New Life Baptist Church.
Sis Julia Harris became director of Missions for New Life Baptist Church following the successful tenure of Sis Charlene Strickland, our first director. Sis Harris was saved by God’s grace at an early age and reared in a God fearing Christian family where service to the community and others was a way of life. Her father’s motto “Serving others, showing God’s Love” was also the way he conducted his life and work, and it affected the way his daughter conducts her life now. Sis Harris earned her Bachelor and Masters in education and has spent her life in service. She believes in and practices her faith in feeding the poor, helping with homeless shelters, visiting the jails guided by Matthew 9:37-38. New Life was blessed to welcome her and her husband into our church family where they have both been assets to the ministry here. As parents and grandparents they are living examples of “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it”. Anyone who meets her is immediately taken by her sense of purpose and genuine love for others.
But the real backbone of the group that strengthens, lifts up and supports the entire team consists of these dedicated men and women.
When Jesus returned to Heaven He had a plan for the Body of Christ to carry on His work and our primary goal is to provide opportunities to witness to and minister to those in need, both home and abroad.
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: 36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me... (Matthew 25: 35 & 36)
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? 38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? 39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? 40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
